2003 saw the release of Angelina’s book, Notes from My Travels, her film, Beyond Borders, and she announced through the media that she intends to give one-third of her earnings to charity.
On Jan. 3, 2003 Angelina re-visited visited Kosovo on behalf of the United Nations.
During March 2003, Angelina visited the United Republic of Tanzania for 6 days to learn more about UNHCR’s operations in the area and donated $50,000 to the Kurasini orphanage in the capital.
On April 14, 2003 — Angelina pledged to pay $5 million over the next 15 years to help launch a wildlife sanctuary in an area of Cambodia that once controlled by the Khmer Rouge.
On April 17, 2003, Angelina donated $10,000 to a hospital for a pediatric ward in Sri Lanka. Angelina also called on the international community to put pressure on warring factions to forge a peace treaty in that country.
On April 30, 2003, Angelina, in fear of the war in Iraq will distracting attention from humanitarian needs elsewhere, donates $30,000 to African refugees to feed children under 5 years old and pay for agricultural supplies.
During August 2003, Angelina visited the Russian Federation for 4 days to learn more about UNHCR’s operations in the area.
During October 2003, Angelina released her book Notes of My Travels which documents some of her earlier journals she wrote on field missions.
“I’ve been traveling for the last three years and the last two I’ve been goodwill ambassador. I initially set out because I wanted to learn about what’s going on in the world and wanted to become a better person and simply educate myself. When I found I could be useful in communicating what I had learned and maybe inspire other people to educate themselves and do some good, it made me so happy and gave me a sense of purpose”, says Angelina on traveling for the UN in general.
On Oct. 21, 2003, shortly before the release of Beyond Borders, the Angelina told the media that she intends to give one-third of her earnings to charity.
During December 2003, Angelina visited Jordan in a private stay and visited the refugees at the Ruwaished camp. Later in December Angelina then visited Egypt and helped distribute winter clothes, blankets and toys to Sudanese refugees. Angelina also donated $20,000 to a community health project in the area.
