Angelina was granted Cambodian citizenship in 2005, she filmed the MTV special The Diary of Angelina Jolie & Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa, was presented with the Global Humanitarian Award and many other exciting things.
During January Angelina attended the conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos where it the formation of a Council of Business Leaders was announced.
During early March Angelina attended the National Press Club Luncheon and announced the formation of National Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Children in Washington, DC. The centre provides free legal-aid to asylum-seeking children with no legal representation.
During April Angelina and Brad Pitt are seen visiting an AIDS treatment center in Ethiopia.
During May Angelina visited Pakistan for 3 days visiting refugee camps and had meetings with Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister.
Angelina filmed the MTV special The Diary of Angelina Jolie & Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa. The documentary was filmed in Sauri, Kenya and aired in September.
Angelina was awarded Cambodian citizenship during May by Cambodia’s King, Norodom Sihamoni, for her continued conservation work in the country.
On September 5, Angelina, in shock, wrote to the White House and members of Congress at the response to Hurricane Katrina. In the letter she stated that New Orleans is “very close to my heart.”
On September 16, 2005, Angelina was named the new face of Saint John Knits. Angelina will also be the head and spokesperson for the charitable foundation she and Saint Johns will form that will support children’s issues and causes. The details about this organisation, including its name, are expected to be released to the media some time through out August, 2006 or during or possibly during New York Fashion Week.
In October Angelina was presented with the Global Humanitarian Award by Mary Kuennin, Executive for Refugee Ministries, the United Church of Christ. “Ms. Jolie’s work on behalf of refugees has made her a role model of individual humanitarian action, an inspiration to people around the world, especially the young. She gives a voice to the often forgotten refugees and displaced persons whose lives have been torn by persecution and war. Her active concern brings the promise of hope”, says Mary.
Angelina, who was not able to attend due to her schedule, thanked the “CWS for this honor and for recognizing my work as UNHCR’s Goodwill ambassador. In turn I’d like to salute you all and all humanitarian field workers whose courageous work for refugees makes you heroes in my eyes.”
Angelina spent October’s Thanksgiving Weekend in Pakistan with Brad Pitt.
On October 24, Angelina attended the First Annual Benefit Gala for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation. At this presentation Angelina announced that she is to partner with the WHO, to treat children in Ethiopia who have been orphaned by AIDS and are HIV positive. The gala helped this new organization raise $800,000.
During November Angelina visited Pakistan.
