Mother of six Angelina Jolie, who turned 43 this year, embraces getting older. “Wisdom, understanding, clarity of thought – all the things that come with age are also beautiful and feminine qualities. “I’d like to think we all get better with age – men and women.” Looking in the mirror these days, Angelina says she sees her mother Marcheline Bertrand looking back, which “warms her”. An actress and humanitarian like her daughter, Marcheline, who died from ovarian cancer in 2007, is the reason Angelina was drawn to fragrance house Guerlain.
Before being unveiled as the face of its new perfume Mon Guerlain last year, the Oscar-winning actress hadn’t appeared in a beauty campaign for ten years, but when chief executive Laurent Boillot flew out to Cambodia to discuss the opportunity, Angelina was reminded of her mother’s love of a particular Guerlain face powder. “She hardly ever wore make-up, but she saved this powder for special occasions,” she tells us. “I grew up thinking of Guerlain as this very fancy French brand.” Having directed last year’s Golden Globe and Bafta-nominated First They Killed My Father, Angelina returned to acting this year, voicing one of the characters in Disney’s The One and Only Ivan and filming Maleficent 2 in the UK. HELLO! caught up with her ahead of the launch of a eau de toilette version of Mon Guerlain to find out more about the new fragrance and how the brand is paying tribute to her mother.
A new interview with Angelina made by Australian Vogue and Angie discusses her work with Guerlain, femininity, feminism and what lessons she tries to teach her daughters.
“Equality is not about us all being the same. It is about the freedom to make our own choices and live our own lives fully, not at the expense of men, but alongside men.”
In early 2017, Angelina Jolie was selected as the face of Guerlain’s Mon Guerlain fragrance, a choice that Jolie noted at the time was an easy one, thanks to her late mother Marcheline Bertrand’s fondness for the French beauty house.
Jolie was the first Hollywood actress to have ever co-created a fragrance for the house (a coup to say the least) and now, thanks to the release of the Mon Guerlain eau de toilette, Jolie has given Vogue Australia unprecedented access into her world to celebrate her affinity for the brand.
Here, Jolie opens up to Vogue to discuss femininity, raising her family and the remarkable women who inspire her.
What values do you identify the most with the Maison Guerlain?
“When you visit the Guerlain House on the Champs-Elysées you get a sense of the history of the company. It is the oldest perfume house in the world. For nearly 200 years they’ve been making perfumes that celebrate femininity in all its forms. But I’d never endorsed a perfume before, and would not have unless I was sure of the values and ethos of the company. They have a genuine commitment to the environment, sustainable development and the communities they work with. That’s what brought us together.”

It was announced on July 27, 2018, that the French cosmetics brand Guerlain will launch a third version of the perfume “Mon Guerlain”. They have also released a new commercial with several new scenes and a print ad for this campaign which you can view below and in the photo gallery.
The third edition of the “Mon Guerlain” line arrives in September 2018 and was named “Mon Guerlain Eau de Toilette”, which this time will come radiant, fresh and cheerful, as a hymn to life, dedicating a dedication to contemporary femininity that has multiple layers. This new version of the fragrance was developed by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk and combines the notes of lavender with tangerine.
Lavender expresses purity, honesty and strength while mandarin reflects the ability to accept the surprises of life with joy and pleasure. In the top notes of the new perfume are tangerine and lavender. On the heart notes is the Jasmine Sambac and on the base note is the vanilla.

On a chilly January evening, Angelina Jolie nestles into a couch inside the highly fragrant Guerlain boutique on Paris’s Champs-Élysées. We’re meeting to toast the launch of Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Florale, for which she is the face. Jolie’s face, apart from softly smoked eyes, looks natural. “We’re all pretty natural,” she says of her family. She takes her time as she discusses her makeup skills (they’re good, but daughter Zahara is more the enthusiast), her skin (cared for by a dermatologist since she was 11), and her views on what it’s like to age when you’re known as one of the world’s most beautiful women.
